On Thursday night at the European Business Excellence Awards, Berkhamsted-based business, Arrow Valves, took the title for Best Company Culture.
Laura Ewers who owns Arrow Valves was thrilled to collect the award at a black-tie event at Harrogate International Centre organised by the world’s number one business coaching firm, ActionCOACH. Laura explained, “This award was very unexpected. Given the company we were in, I was blown away when our name was called as the winner.”
This manufacturing company, established in 1999, specialises in engineering products including valves that help wholesome water get to where it should be, at the right flow rate but, most critically, making sure it can’t go back in the direction it came from as this can cause a significant risk to health. Winning Best Company Culture meant they were assessed on areas including their company mission, points of culture, recognising team achievements, their corporate and social responsibility activities and what they do to create a great culture at work. Arrow Valves’ work with charities includes twinning their office toilets with latrines in Guatemala and Malawi. Twinning helps provide clean water and sanitation to people around the world as 2.4 billion people don’t have easy access to a toilet.
Laura added, “Our policies and practices are designed around the employee; this employee focus helps attract and retain the talent essential for driving and sustaining competitive performance. We are proud of our culture, which is the heart of Arrow Valves. Our employee handbook sums up our company work ethic. We give more than we take, we look out for one another and take ownership for our work. Most importantly, we know how to work hard and have fun.”
