Our range of Booster Break units are critical for preventing back flow and keeping you and your water supply safe. We offer a range of units from Fixed, Variable, Duty, Duty Standby and Duty Assist. These all share a booster pump(s), type AB air gap and accumulator vessel. As it is not a case of one size fits all, we have made it super easy for you to find the right unit. Understanding the Boost-A-Break Range
The Arrow Valves Boost-A-Break (BTAB) range combines a break tank with an integral booster pump set and a Type AB air gap — providing Fluid Category 5 backflow protection in a single, compact unit. The Type AB air gap is the highest level of backflow protection recognised under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, making these units suitable for the most demanding applications including healthcare, laboratories, and washdown installations.
Which Configuration Do You Need?
Fixed Speed
The pump operates at a single speed, switching on and off based on system demand. Suitable for straightforward applications where demand is relatively consistent, such as a single Category 5 hose union tap outlet.
Variable Speed
A variable speed drive adjusts pump output to match demand in real time, reducing energy consumption and minimising pressure fluctuations. Includes an integral automatic bypass valve to maintain mains supply in the event of power failure.
Duty Standby
Two pumps installed — one operates while the other stands by. If the duty pump fails, the standby takes over automatically, ensuring continuity of supply. Pumps alternate on a timed basis to prevent stagnation.
Duty Assist
Both pumps run simultaneously when demand exceeds the capacity of a single pump, effectively doubling the available flow rate. Suitable for higher-demand applications.
How to Size Your Unit
Correct sizing requires two key figures: your required flow rate (in litres per second) and your required outlet pressure (in bar). Oversizing wastes capital expenditure and energy; undersizing results in inadequate pressure at the point of use.
